A fox! I saw a fox!!

.
I saw a fox! -- a big beautiful fox!!
My first time to see a fox in Israel!
.
Something exciting for Camera-Critters, at last.

You'll have to enlarge both photos to believe me. Follow my arrow in the first picture, where it says The FOX.
.
Having missed the infrequent bus to my village, I decided to walk home along the road.
Below the road is the valley which burned in 2010; I told you how the Keren Kayemet/JNF forestry teams were starting to clear out all the dead trees in June.

A busload of young teens was just descending to the valley for their hike. Can you see them down below?
Some of them tried a short-cut instead of the trail. Not wise.
It's dangerous trying to climb down the terraces, and some of the girls were screaming in mock fear.
.
I think the poor fox had never heard such shrill human screams and he hightailed it out of there.
He suddenly emerged just a few meters in front of me.
Don't know which of us was more surprised!

Luckily I had the camera hung around my neck.
The fox gave me a look like, "What are you doing walking on this road, human?"
He ran across the road, but not before looking both ways for possible cars.

Then the fox ran straight up the mountain!
Not zigzagging at all, just straight up to the top.
How he got a foothold in the rock escarpments and how he sailed over felled burnt trees, I'll never know.

  3. Yaelian, oi, even with the label I put in the picture? Yeah, the fox's colors really blend in.

Alice, really? Is that a good sign for good things to come?
    I'm ready!

  4. There you go, you saw it, it saw you, almost love at first sight, lol!

Don't see them often but hear them a lot at night in Quimper!

  5. Ciel, really, you hear foxes?!
    What do they sound like?
(All I know is the nightly choir of jackals here.)

  6. How wonderful! One of my favorite memories is about a fox family. I was camping in south London, Crystal Palace, and I woke up one morning very early, and there was a foxy mamy playing with 3 fox cubs just outside my tent. 3 km from Westminster!

  7. So exciting for you, Dina. I don't think I've ever seen a fox in the wild, although I've seen plenty of coyotes, which is hardly the same thing!

  9. How exciting, Dina...a missed bus leading to such a surprising encounter. I'm glad you had your camera and were able to capture him sprinting up the mountain before he disappeared.

  10. Lucky you, although I'm not completely sure I can see it. I can see a couple of things but I think I might be looking at earth or rock, not the fox.

  11. Foxes are very interesting animals. They are very rare now in the Netherlands, but when we happen to see them we are always very excited.

  12. Amazing capture--and I share you joy at seeing something so illusive. I never forget when that happens. Thanks for sharing, Dina!

  13. Wow, lucky you! I had to enlarge to see it, but it`s there:-)
It is a lot of fox here, but I do not see them often. My grandmother had a fox as she fed and was almost tame.
