These fun shadows were shot especially for
Hey Harriet's "Shadow Shot Sunday."
Date palm trees grow in big plantations along the shore of the Dead Sea.
So it is only natural that the En Gedi Nature Reserve should use their fronds as thatching.
The huge umbrellas cover the ticket booth and the picnic area.
(No eating is allowed inside the oasis in Wadi David. )

For better views of the roof see

So it was the bright sun coming through these roofs that made the sharp shadows.

wow..the first shot is majestically beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing.
Have a great day
Wonderful shadow shot
ReplyDeleteJust curious, do you have a big DATE recipe book at home? Dates are a big dessert ingredient in the Middle East I guess.
ReplyDeleteWe really need a lot of shadow here now!
ReplyDeleteBeing in the US, I never have seen (or even considered) palm thatch as roofing material (around here is the same, boring asphalt shingles). I feel in such a faraway desert when I see this tent shaped building. Very nice!
ReplyDeleteDina, these are really great shadow shots!!
ReplyDeleteA great idea to forbid food consumption in the reserve and keep the place unlittered.
Oh wow! They are simply stunning shadowy captures! I've never seen anything like it before. Amazing! Enjoy the rest of your weekend :)
ReplyDeleteI still haven't started covering my shack with reed, but I have found additional materials curbside (as is my way)
ReplyDeleteDefinitely wonderful shadows! I hope it's cool under the fronds.
