Not-real cats

.

C is for constructed cats.

As if Israeli cities don't have enough stray cats roaming the streets, some Tel Aviv neighborhoods have added cat sculptures.

Cat confrontation

.

Several outdoor cats come through "my" yard regularly.
When the females are in heat there is pandemonium around here.
Loud, eerie yowling!  Cats chasing each other up trees or onto roofs!
Hissy fits with real hissing.
Violent fights, with two cats locked in battle.
Here in the photo, two even crouched outside my window screen, growling and staring each other down.
I chased them away before the fur could fly.

Sleepy cats share their bench with me

.

I tried not to wake the fluffy sleeping cat, but his was the only bench I could find for my picnic.

The cats at the Open Museum in Omer Industrial Park all seem to feel protected and are laid back and pettable.

And apparently also well-fed because they didn't beg while I sat between two of them and ate my cheese sandwich.

Tel Aviv cats and their photographer

.

My son is a professional photographer in Los Angeles.
Tel Aviv's MANY cats caught his interest when he came for a short visit to Israel in February.

We walked the little lanes of the older neighborhoods on a quiet Sabbath afternoon.

Schlaf-stunde, Shabbat nap-time for cats too.

Everyone shall sit under his vine and no one shall make them afraid

.
1 But in the end of days it shall come to pass, that the mountain of the LORD'S house shall be established as the top of the mountains, and it shall be exalted above the hills; and peoples shall flow unto it.

2 And many nations shall go and say: 'Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, and to the house of the God of Jacob; and He will teach us of His ways, and we will walk in His paths'; for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.

3 And He shall judge between many peoples, and shall decide concerning mighty nations afar off; and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks; nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.

 4 But they shall sit every man under his vine and under his fig-tree;

and none shall make them afraid;   for the mouth of the LORD of hosts hath spoken.
Micah 4:1-4

The new kitten, only survivor of the mom's litter, chose to be born and to live in the little space under my little house.

World Stray Animals Day

.

I wonder where this litter of kittens found food after the only restaurant in our village went out of business.

Did you know?   Thursday was World Stray Animals Day.
The organization's website calls it  "The day for compassion, care, and action for stray animals worldwide. . . .  April 4 is the worldwide celebrated day to give special attention to the 600.000.000 stray animals in the world."

See their Facebook page for all the activities that took place in many countries.

Cats in snow

.
If you have looked at my blog for the past two days you  know that the Jerusalem region was treated to a rare snowfall on Thursday.
Ten inches!

It was only the second time in her life for 6-year-old Shachar to feel snow underfoot.
She walked through it as gingerly as possible.
Two legs down, two legs up, way up.

Lara, Shachar's mother, wanted nothing of it.
She tried to stay high and dry.

The little cat paw prints looked delicate,

compared to the much bigger canine prints.
Or--maybe this was the jackal I saw in the snow of 2008!

(All photos can be much enlarged.)

Lucky campus cats

.

These are not just any stray cats.
They are smarty cats, Hebrew University cats!
They even have their own feeding station!

A pan filled with water and two stainless steel dishes for food.

See how fat and happy they appear?
The white one was crunching away at dried cat food when I came to the beautiful Mount Scopus campus yesterday  morning.

There are no classes on Fridays so the campus was empty and the cafeteria near the cats' place was closed; but still, someone had put out  food for the cats.

My discovery of a dedicated feline feeding station started my day on a happy note.
