  3. Haunting shadow and silhouette combination! This would be a great photo for a mystery novel!

  5. I guess those black cassocks are designed to let the breeze flow through on your hot Israeli summer days...who would have guessed the fabric was so delicate!

This photo does make one think of a mystery novel, as Gemma said.

  11. Great capture, Dina, it's wonderful! It somehow reminds me of this shot: http://mendoncajose.blogspot.com/2010/07/key-to-temple.html :-)

  12. Gosh, I actually remember this shop (I think). Armenian Quarter, behind the cathedral?

  13. I love this photo! It's a good example of why I like participating in this meme and seeing shots from all over the world.

  14. I like so much your shots of the Old City! They bring me there :)

I came across this nice meme: 7 Super Shots by HostelBookers. I've posted my 7 Super Shots on my blog, and I though you might like to take part as well - I know I would love to see your 7 Super Shots!

    Greetings from Tel Aviv :)

  15. Good lights and shadows - the monk's cassock/coat is almost translucent at the bottom.

  17. Friends, thanks for the nice comments. It was a lucky photo op.

Contrary to the commonly held image held by lay people, most monks and nuns (whether contemplative or apostolic) are very busy people (sometimes not by choice). At least all the ones I know. There is much work (both physical and intellectual) to be done in addition to the multiple hours of common prayer every day.

Yes, the translucent garb was a surprise to me too.

JM, I love your similar but very different photo. Thanks for reminding me of it with the link.

Rob, sorry, wrong quarter. This picture was snapped standing outside the Franciscans' Casa Nova hostel, not far from the New Gate, in the Christian Quarter. But then, all the souvenir shops look alike, no?
