Go in peace, to peace, Lara

.

By now all you faithful readers know  Lara, my best feline friend.

Lara kept the neighboring monastery free of mice, snakes, and rodents.
Last week we think a snake bit her.
Now beloved Lara is dead.

For at least 8 (some say 11) years she did her job well, living free outdoors, bearing the snows of winter and the heat of summer.

She had one litter.  One kitten survived.
Here on the stairs she had a brief hissy fit with daughter Shachar.

But mostly they were kind to one another, like here, sharing a plate of leftovers in the February wetness.

She was beautiful and intelligent  and affectionate to the few humans that she knew and trusted.

She enjoyed having me swing her back and forth, side to side, around and around.
"Hoy-dash, hoy-dash ..."

And now dear Lara is on the shining path to Cat Heaven, if there really is one.
Thank you for your friendship and love, my friend, and for your long service.
"Well done, good and faithful servant."

In her final days she was tended by a gentle hermit priest monk, and he buried Lara in his garden.
Rest in peace, old girl.
We will miss you.

Cats are amazing creatures. They provide so much and most ask so little in return. LOVE. Sorry for your loss.

Passei para rever o seu blog.
Lara será sempre uma lembrança bonita de bons momentos!

It is the snake you do not see that kills you. RIP dear Lara...

Gosh, I never even met Lara and here I am all teary eyed over her demise. That last photo really got to me. But she had a good life and was loved to the end. I know she will be missed.

Sad :( I hope she's at the Rainbow bridge with my cats ....

Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together.

I love that a hermit monk buried Lara in his garden - I also love that you gave her a pretty name rather then something plain. It speaks to her regal nature.

Humans live 83 years on average and beloved pets live 12 years (or whatever). So we are bound for heartbreak, from the day we bring our cat or dog home.

Hugs of sympathy!

I'm sure she has gone to the cat haven and is now enjoying herself with her feline friends. She has live a cat's life well lived.

Dear Dina, you moved me. I adore cats and my old black cat is really part of me and my life (he is resting now beside me while I am typing), so I know, I know very well what you mean. I am close to you more than you think. Hugs - Fabrizio
