End of innocence

.
Sydney through the ferry window

As Ambassador Dan Shapiro so well said, "We share the pain of Australians for those they tragically lost today, and send condolences to the families. May they know no more sorrow."

My family in Sydney thought they live far away from such Mideast-type madness.
This morning I'm afraid they are waking up to a new reality.

I wish for a return of safety, confidence, and good life for the fair city of Sydney.

The Sydney Morning Herald has been live-blogging the events.

  4. No, innocence ended in 2002 when over 200 young Australians and Indonesians were killed in the Bali Nightclub Terrorism. We never recovered, I suspect in part, because the dead people were all young, sporty and sometimes famous.

The difference now is that Sydney is on Australian soil. What chaos, all caused by one extremist who somehow got hold of a gun :( Did the security people not know he somehow smuggled a gun into the country, perhaps by bribing a custom's officer?

    I feel utterly miserable.

  7. We were really shocked to hear about this in the news yesterday and today. I feel so awful for those families who lost their loved ones. This is all madness.

  11. Thank you for your kind comments, Dina. We're all trying to come to to terms with how the perpetrator with a history of violent crime, infatuation with extremism and mental instability was out on the streets.
