Girl soldiers on a safety island

.
Good girls, go in peace!

(For
G Day at ABC Wednesday.)

Seen today clustered on a traffic island at the busy Jerusalem intersection of Agron and King David Streets--green (as in,
new) recruits, going on a tour of the capital as part of their compulsory army service.
Enlarge the photo and see that the gun of their sergeant leader is about half as tall as she is.
.
That 5-star hotel is the David Citadel.
The Citadel/Tower of David in the Old City is visible just a few blocks to the east.
.
These 18-year-olds look so young to be defending this country, no?
God be with them!

  1. It is a shame that this is necessary. Wouldn't it be a wonderful world if all nations could get on and armies were unnecessary?

  3. My heart goes out to those girls - young, putting their university plans on hold, going into some danger. However I am also very proud that they take on roles equally as important as the men. My niece became an technical expert on army communications, for example.

  12. I met often these groups when I was in Israel. They went almost everywhere: I took a picture of a group in the Haram esh-Sharif...

  13. You are right, Dina, the gun is half her size.

  14. It is strange for us Norwegian to see these young girls walking around with a gun.. and it's very sad that it is necessary. But, I`m sure they get a good education. The weapon is not only big, but it is heavy to carry too.
I would go in the military when I was 18, but things happened that changed that..

I met the 2 cutest Israeli girls from art school in Jerusalem today here in Grimstad.. it was so touching.
Blessed be you and your people
    Tania:-)

  15. I agree they seem so young to be part of a gun-toting squad. But I guess that's what it's like to grow up there. So sad.
