  7. Jesh StG, I think (but not sure) the reference to Efraim is from the book of Hosea, chapter 8:

    7 “They sow the wind
    and reap the whirlwind.
    The stalk has no head;
    it will produce no flour.
    Were it to yield grain,
    foreigners would swallow it up.
    8 Israel is swallowed up;
    now she is among the nations
    like something no one wants.
    9 For they have gone up to Assyria
    like a wild donkey wandering alone.
    Ephraim has sold herself to lovers.

    I also see a hint in this, announcing a soon to open art exhibition:

    "The spirit of one unknown donkey named Ephraim—an apparition from the past, a specter, a faint flicker—furnished the conceptual and material foundation for the exhibition “Donkey.”
    It is not a thematic group exhibition which pursues donkey images in Israeli art. Instead, it focuses on the grave situation of ceramics as a medium in the field of Israeli art. It strives to touch upon life and death, upon the intertwined physical and mental dangers threatening practitioners of art in general, and ceramics in particular."

  8. Love the bright colour! And the title is very humourous. :)

    Re your comment on Chicago: I also practically grew up there (my grandparents lived there and we visited often) and had never heard of this church. In fact, my husband and I just happened upon it b/c our car was parked nearby. Since we still had some time on the meter, we decided to join the tour. The Jesus Weeping Over Jerusalem and Chicago works were by a local artist. I think that was the significance. I tried to google some information on the work, but I couldn't find any.

  9. VP, yeah, well ... the title was just an afterthought, maybe to use one more J word for ABC Wednesday.
    At first I thought the statue was a jenny (a female donkey). Then I started to wonder if it could be a jack instead.
    Jack or jackass is the term for a male donkey.

  11. New to this site, thanks to ABC! First, I love that jade tone. Couldn't see any "naughty bits" to tell if is was a Jenny or a Jackass, but then again, I live in America, and we have enough Jackasses here, I should know one when I see it... so I vote Jenny! Peace, Amy
