The Australian connection

.
Wait, I can explain. . . why this is not exactly a Jerusalem photo!

My daughter the engineer (whom I recently acknowledged here) has the heart of a poet, the hands of a violinist, and the eye of a photographer. NAOMI took this photo from the ferry as she and my young grandson were returning to Circular Quay a few weeks ago. The white "sails" of the Sydney Opera House against the stormy winter sky were perfect for SkyWatch, I thought; and Naomi agreed.
Judah Ha-Levi was a Jewish physician, poet, and philosopher born in Spain about 1085. His most famous line, about his longing for Zion, is "My heart is in the East, and I am at the ends of the West." Sometimes when I get to missing Naomi and my son-in-law and my two Australian-born grandsons, I feel like my heart is in the South while I am way up North.

  16. I do most certainly remember Naomi having the hands of a violinist as a 5 year old. She picked up that violin as though she was made to play it. You have so much to be proud of in your whole family. The photo of the Opera House is gorgeous also.

  28. i know how you feel - to get to wellington, NZ from Crete, I need to go to athens via the overnight ferry (or fly in 1 hour), wait for my flight to singapore, catch another flight to auckland, and anotehr one to wellington, a long journey that gets mroe and mroe difficult as the years go by

  29. Your daughter captured a beautiful shot. The Sails just jump out at you.
When my hubby was in the military we were the only ones in my family or his that had moved out of the state we grew up in. I know how it feels to have your heart in two places at once. Here's hoping you get to see your sweet family soon.
    *hugs*

  31. The light in that photo is just perfect with the stormy sky and the Opera House lit up. If that's the week I think it was there wasn't much sun around. She was lucky to be there when she was and she's a terrific photographer.
