Danger lurking in the night

What prowls in our dark woods?

Lara the Cat: "Uh-oh, is that a jackal I just heard?!" Jack the Jackal: "You bet your sweet life it is, tasty morsel!"

  12. No worries, friends. Lara is alive and well. This is the same Lara who stood up to several threatening jackals to protect her two remaining kittens two days after they were born. (The first two kittens of the litter were not so lucky.)
My friends feed Lara and Shachar twice a day but they are not house cats. They live outside in the woods.
Can you just barely see the legs of the jackal in the dark photo? If not, I can post an enhancement (is that what you call it?) that my professional photographer son did on his computer.
I walk home from the friends' house through the woods in the dark and hear the calling of the jackal groups back and forth along the valley. No fear. They never attack people.
Someday I will record them and post it as a video.

  14. dina, thanks for the kind comments on my site. Thought I'd pop in and get to know you better. I came by a couple of times before, thought I was out of my element, scrolled down twice and left.

Today I took the time to go all the way to the bottom (reading and observing)and, WOW - what amazing information and photos you have here! I enjoyed the visit and learned something new. I don't know who said it first but . . .

    I shall return.

  16. Leona shalom, gosh, I'm glad you came back. I always feel like Israel, at least her historical and religious past, belongs to everyone.
I'm getting to know your out-of-the-ordinary blog too, and it is full of soul.

  20. Now, that's an animal one isn't exposed to every day. I think the nearest I got to one was in a film (uh oh, here I go) Mount Kilimanjaro with Gregory Peck and Susan Hayworth. That's quite an experience, Dina. But then again, I can imagine what you're exposed to while on your excavations. Have a wonderful weekend, and thank you for your kind words on Miraculously. Life is truly a miracle!

  32. p.s. I knew I posted Susan Hayworth instead of Susan Hayward. Do you ever get that nagging feeling for hours after having said or done something that you know just wasn't quite right?
Had to set the record straight.
    Thank you, Dina. Petra
