Zal in Zion

Zichronam livracha--may their memory be for a blessing.
Eldad Regev and Ehud Goldwasser z"l, the reserve soldiers who were wounded and kidnapped by Hizbullah on the northern border two years ago, came home to Israel today--in coffins. For two long years the families and all of us supporting them knew nothing of their fate.
Today's prisoner swap was painful too to the Israeli families who lost loved ones killed by the five terrorists who were released from prison and returned to Lebanon to a hero's welcome.
These are not the Z words I had planned to post for ABC Wednesday. But it would seem frivolous to do so under the circumstances.
Tomorrow will be another difficult day, with two funerals. To the families we say the traditional "May God comfort you among the other mourners of Zion and Jerusalem."

  1. The are not adequate words. Just more thoughts and prayers for the families that have been through so much only to have this be the end.

What I love about your blog is that is it so real. It's life in the Jerusalem hills as you see it. This is part of it, although an unpleasant part.

  7. Amen and amen. I wonder how these two who gave their lives for Israel would feel about this exchange...may God bless their families and comfort and sustain them as they grieve.

  8. We saw these on TV today and was very saddened for the families and these fine young men. My mother heard about it too on the Japanese news. The whole world is mourning along with Israel.

  9. I agree that it was appropriate to use these words for your post today. It brings home the truth of what war is all about.

  10. I'm so sorry and it always pains me to see such young men and women facing this harsh reality in Israel. May their memory truly be for a rich blessing. Thanks for a sobering Z and a timely reminder.

  11. Hi Dina, thanks for stopping by...and regarding those "Z" star names...if you take them apart you will see they are actually Arabic. I'm not sure why the dictionary ran them all together as one word each.

  13. Israelian governement has had a great respect for its soldiers's families. I imagine it is very important that they rest in Peace in their country, near their family. I think this swap was very hard to decide.
Ehud Olmert was right it's a deep shame to celebrate the liberation of murderers.
Thanks Dina, to pay tribute to this 2 heroes without willing it.
