Achoo! Gesundheit!

I looked out the window this afternoon to find that Jerusalem had disappeared from the horizon. The hills across our valley had also been swallowed up.
The sun looked weird and ominous.
I clicked on the local newspapers. Sure enough, a huge cloud of dust had suddenly blown in from Egypt and was covering Israel.
Sde Dov, Tel Aviv's small airport, did not let planes land. And the Environmental Protection Ministry issued a warning of severe air pollution all over the country and urged the elderly, people with heart or lung conditions, pregnant women, and children to stay indoors.
Well, I hoped I didn't fit any of those categories and went out to take a picture.
We are hoping for rain tonight to make the air easier on the nose and eyes. Achoo!

SkyWatch Friday participants are showing their (hopefully brighter and clearer) skies starting tonight. Have a look.

  7. Usually when MY city looks like that, it is because of fog. Never seen dust cover a hole city like that. Hope you get rain soon - so your beautiful city can emerge to the surface again! Been there you see!

A weird sight, but a good picture.

[my knowledge in computer science is like your sky, Dina. So I can't explain why you can't access in my blog. Maybe, you'll have to wait, and the dust will vanish. Then you'll be able to read it again : )...]

  16. How Biblical!
That dust contains ancient grains of pharoes, of slaves' sandals, of the exhalations of the prophets and the matriarchs. elements that once were the eyelashes and tears of animals that never glimpsed a human. Also the djinns and dust devils from an ancient forgotten tale enjoy their dance above your wondering head, Dina.....A bit of floss from a pacific palm swirls high above you too. It is my Hawaiian greeting to you. a quick note, an "in" joke between blogging friends on opposite sides of the globe. MMMM, i can smell the garlic cooking in your neighbors pot. Aloha, sistah-

  27. Interesting. It reminded me of my time in Singapore when smoke from the bush fires in Sumatra hung over Singapore for about three weeks. No sun at all during that period.

  28. Boy that is a lot of dust you got there.

  29. Wow! That's a dust storm to rival those that occur in Arizona. Is there dust seeping into the house thru tiny cracks. That used to happen to my mother-in-law in Arizona.

  30. Dust! Is that what it was? I noticed it here in Kfar Saba but it didn't feel dusty outside - just very strange light effects.

We certainly got the rain didn't we? Thank goodness!

  32. Dina:

My post today 2/21 features Temple Emanuel in our city. Many of our city's prominent Jewish residents attend this temple. I thought you might be interested, given some of your previous posts!
