  7. Shalom friends and thanks for your comments.

Jules, it must be hard to lose a mother like Audrey z"l. But your idea for blog friends to send virtual flowers is wonderful.

Kay, it's not like a Jewish Yom Kippur fast which means no food or drink. When Christians fast for Lent it usually means giving up a favorite food, like chocolate. The Orthodox Christians go 40 days without meat and some of them also give up dairy products. Fasting is meant to be a spiritual discipline for the spirit, to prepare you.

  8. I love your today picture, Dina. It speaks by itself. All details make us guess the place, the people, the atmosphere......

  11. Petrea, Catherine, merci. Nice to hear.

Cieldequimper, shalom. Well, I'm glad the brothers did NOT come in just then. I probably was not supposed to be there...

  12. Is that at the Ecole Biblique (sorry, can't figure out how to get the accent)? I know the English Dominicans very well and my mother was at a meeting at the Ecole Biblique recently.... first time she'd been to Israel. She was fascinated. She's promised to bring me sometime in the near future. I can't wait.

And, though we no longer fast properly all through Lent Catholics are still obligated to fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday.
