"Cow chocolate"

.
P is for PARAH for today's ABC Wednesday.
.
Parah is the Hebrew word for cow.
.
Elite, the big Israeli candy and coffee manufacturer, first started making this chocolate bar in 1934 under the brand name "Shamnunit."
Not a very catchy name, in my humble opinion.
.
Fortunately they added a picture of a cow on the wrapper in the 1950s and ever since, the public has nicknamed it "shokolad para."
.
YouTube has a funny commercial for this "Cow chocolate."

  1. Oh yes, I remember Parah chocolate. Not the add though. Kind of reminds me of a certain Lila Kuh...

  5. How many cows did you implement today? I would never believe it was only the source of photo-inspiration))

  6. Rob and Mandy, I never saw that commercial either, but then, I'm not a TV watcher.
I had to google to find out who Lila Kuh is.

Patsy, let's hope the bittersweet chocolate is good for us. Especially with a glass of milk.

Robin, we have lots of Swiss chocolate in Israel now, but para is fine with me.

    Roger -- LOL!

Irina, haha. Yes, right after "shooting" the cows I broke them up into bite-size pieces. They did not last long.

  7. It looks delicious! Chocolate by any other name is still chocolate. I would want to have the big piece in the middle, and share the small one with my guests, LOL.

  10. OK, I'm sold! I like chocolates of any kind. I have to say I've never seen chocolates with a cow on it.

  11. 'Shamnunit' sounds a bit like the Italian 'scimunito', which is not a compliment.
The only parah I knew until now was the adom parah, but this is another story...
    I like better the chocolate!

  12. Friends shalom. How I enjoy your comments! :)
Sure the para chocolate is good, especially with peanut butter spread on it. You can make your own Reese's Pieces.

VP, shamnunit can also be translated "greasy." Same in Italian?
Yes, and you think of the para aduma, the red heifer of biblical fame. Without blemish.

  13. That was an interesting multi-cultural add and as chocolate is so universal it makes a lot of sense.

  14. Loved the commercial and LOVED the chocolate. How does it compare to the Swiss Chocolate???? (-8

  15. Meryl, yes, chocolate and not money makes the world go around.

Suzanne, para is just fine for me. Splurging on Swiss chocolate all the time would be too decadent for me.

  17. Chocolate... my passion - besides poetry, that is! And cows on chocolate! Why didn't they think of that here in dairy country, Wisconsin, USA? Loved this, and thanks for being on ABC Wed., where I found you. Peace, Amy
