ISRAEL IMPROVED its rank in the latest United Nations commissioned World Happiness Report.
We are now the 11th happiest country in the world.
Just looking at Maayan's smiling pretty face made me happy today.
Maayan was keeping watch on the Negev Museum of Art in Beer Sheva's Old City and she was happy to tell me, the newbie, about her museum and all the other nice places to see down here.
At the top of the list in the 2013 World Happiness Report are these countries:
1. Denmark
2. Norway
3. Switzerland
4. The Netherlands
5. Sweden
6. Canada
7. Finland
8. Austria
9. Iceland
10. Australia
11. ISRAEL!
.
UPDATE: Friend Kay of Musings in Hawaii has brought to my attention that the OECD (to which Israel was recently admitted) has its own Life Satisfaction "happy list" and there Israel is #17.

I heard the list on the news today as Canada was 6th. They were commenting that the happiest countries were northern and had cold winters. I would have thought if there was sun all year round, people would be happier. Hey Ho! Congrats, tho' for making the list.

Forgive me for looking at the position of Italy, sandwiched between Slovenia and Slovakia at the 45th place. Even in Saudi Arabia they are happier than us...
ReplyDeleteStrange how most of the happy places are cold :) I'm afraid to ask where the US ends up.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to Israel. Can't wait to see more of the museum too!
ReplyDeleteNice informative post..I think, Happiness is a treasury of life.

Interesting list! I can't help noticing that many of the northernmost countries seem to have a lock on happiness. Maybe it's the cooler weather they enjoy?
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to Israel! An exceptional country with an exceptional people. Maayan certainly demonstrates a lovely smile full of happiness.
Happiness is one thing, but contentment is essential.
ReplyDeleteThen again I saw another listing in the BBC news that had this happiness ranking for 2013:
ReplyDeleteAustralia
Sweden
Canada
Norway
Switzerland
United States
Denmark
The Netherlands
Iceland
United Kingdom
This would make Naomi and Guy happy.
Thanks for your ideas, friends.
ReplyDeleteKay, I'll update the post with your info.
Sara, I am developing a theory lately: I think the northern cool countries literally have it "made in the shade." I think the months-long heat in the Middle East literally makes men crazy. Now that I have TV and cable, I can see the daily maps of the Mideast with temps always in the 90s and even over 100 (30s and 40s C). So many wars have started in the hot and dry months.
Hey, we are beaten by Denmark! Must be all the food and drink they are so fond of:-)
