In line to be milked

.

Finally, some animals for Camera Critters meme.

Cows (many!)  walking into the milking parlor at the kibbutz in central Israel where I picked olives a few weeks ago.
Enlarge the photo and see one cow facing the wrong direction.
.
Sign I once saw on a milk truck in America: "Everything we have we owe to udders."

  4. There were dairy cows at the farm that was behind our property when I was growing up. Every once in awhile they'd be in the nearest field grazing, and might come up to say hello.

  7. Poor sweeties! Doesn't look like much of a life. And Mary G. is right, they do have minds of their own. Even personalities!

  8. She has her eye on you! Reading comments on someone else's blog just now one commenter had left a link to cows jumping for joy to be let out to pasture. It was so amazing. I am sharing it here in case anyone is interested. I never imagined such a thing was possible . . . obviously I don't know cows! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CL5htSOieRI

  9. Thanks, Sara. I had seen that but didn't know how to find it. It seems just right here!

  10. Sara, Petrea, unfortunately these cows will never see a patch of green grass.
That video is a healthy natural reaction. When I worked livestock at Heifer Ranch, letting donkeys, sheep, and goats into a fresh pasture would also bring the same outburst of joy and jumping.

  11. Yes. I think most livestock don't get to have joy.
