Look alikes: who are you

.

Mandarin or clementine?

Anemone or poppy?

Guinea pig or hamster?
-
These are all part of a new campaign at Beer Sheva's Soroka University Medical Center.
They are posted along the covered walkways where patients are taken from one hospital building to another on gurneys or wheelchairs.
Medical personnel are reminded to follow the hospital's patient identification and verification procedures carefully.
And the patient is urged to insist that medical personnel identify him by his full name and identity number.
"Mistaken identity can lead to tragedy!" is the message.
.
Let's hope everyone is paying attention.

  5. Jen, shalom. Apparently mix-ups do happen. But I have not seen any statistics.
Keep in mind that the Beer Sheva area population includes many Russian-, Amharic-, and Arabic-speakers. Some older patients are illiterate. So communication is not always easy.

  6. Hospitals everywhere must be following this protocol now. Our military hospital was once called crippler because they cut off the wrong leg. Whenever we take my mom to her hospital for any sort of surgery (eyes) they ask who she is at each station and what she's there for. I do believe it's important although she can't understand why she's got to repeat her identity so often.

  7. When I got surgery, they marked my chest with a a RED X. I guess that was where the treasure was buried.

  17. Nothing is treated or prescribed without several confirmations of name and birthdate around here these days. Those are such clever reminders! Love your blog! We will be visiting Israel on a cruise stop in May - an overnight in Haifa. So excited!!!
