New life, green

The greening of Israel.
With the first rains the dry summer brownness gives way to refreshing greenness.

  1. Such a beautiful photo, Dina! Can you tell us anything about the stairs themselves? They look ancient.

  2. Petrea, yes, wonderful stairs, eh?! They and the 2-story house and the chapel over the tomb of St. Elisabeth were built by the Crusaders in the 12th century. In the 15th C a hermitage was added, adjoining the chapel; and I got to live there for half a year!

  3. P.S. It is on a hillside in the Jerusalem Hills, near Ein Kerem and not far from Jerusalem.
