Summer in Jerusalem is dusty, hot, and very long this year.
Why would these zebras be running around at high noon??
Almost all the other animals at the Biblical Zoo were wisely having a siesta.
Not all the zoo's animals are mentioned in the Bible, so the official name is The Tisch Family Zoological Gardens in Jerusalem.
Their website is here and a Wiki article, here.
.
Visitors can beat the heat by taking a guided tour after hours, at 8:15-11:00 pm.
.
Camera-Critters meme is starting again tonight with animals from all over the world. See the critters from the comfort of your own (hopefully cool) home.
.
UPDATE: As FA of the fine Monastery Daily Photo reminded me in a comment, zebras might not have been mentioned in the Bible but two of them must have been on Noah's Ark! Thanks, Brother.

The Biblical Zoo. Wow! What a great place that must be. I'd love to visit there some day. And yes, I can't think where Zebras are mentioned in Sacred Scripture - but, surely, they were on the Ark.
ReplyDeleteWow!!
ReplyDeleteGreat action shot :)
I can see the speed .... LOL
You make some of the neatest posts! I just love what you share with us.
ReplyDeleteLove your title ;--)
ReplyDeleteWonderful shot of the zebras running. I've never heard of a Biblical zoo ... how kewl is that!
Hugs and blessings,
Just looking at that photo makes me feel hot! All that exercise in the midday sun: mad...
ReplyDeleteI would love to visit the Biblical Zoo. That shot is awesome!
ReplyDeleteHi Dina!
ReplyDeleteThat after hours tour seems to make much more sense; but I wonmder who was taking the pictures in the summer heat? ;))
Blogtrotter is now showing that Reykjavik is not entirely grey... ;)). Enjoy and have a fabulous weekend!
great action shot!
ReplyDeleteMaybe they are having a race!
ReplyDeleteKept me wondering why these zebras were running. When it's very hot all the animals normally don't do much. Nice shot
ReplyDeleteGreat shot, Dina! You were in an excellent high position for this photo!
ReplyDeleteThanks friends, for all your fun comments!
ReplyDeleteFA, thanks for the reminder. I have duly updated the post to include the ark. BTW, the Visitors Center of the zoo is shaped like a big Noah's ark. A sign at the door says, "Welcome. It's not necessary to enter two by two." :)
Pietro, that's right. Many of the animals, like these in the Africa section, are viewed from wooden boardwalks right ABOVE the animals.
looks to me like there in a race to cross the finish line

ReplyDeleteSometimes you just have to kick up your heels! Cool action shot.
ReplyDeleteAn Arkies Musings
What lucky zebras to have a place big enough to gallop around in! They know a good thing when they see it.
ReplyDeletewhat a beautiful zebra. i love their color so much.
ReplyDeleteWonderful photo of running zebras! Before I read your commentary, I thought it was a zebra race :)
ReplyDeleteBiblical Zoo.. I think thats a very nice idea..
ReplyDeleteDina , I have just been catching up on your posts and having a wonderful time. Your photography at time is just marvellou as in the first bench post shot. Also the Swiss vineyards. I love yor explanitory writing too.
ReplyDeleteThis Zebra shot looks so real it could be in the wild.
As I have watched them in the wild, I'm glad they have plenty of space at the Biblical Zoo so they can run.
ReplyDeletewhat a lovely place for zebras, thanks for the visit..
ReplyDeleteI've seen lots of zebras in lots of zoos but have never seen them race before. Of course the enclosures they have been in didn't give them enough room to run a race.
ReplyDeleteGreat photograph.
This must be a very beautiful zoo, with a lot of space! Great picture!
ReplyDeleteHow interesting- zoo tours in the evening. What a great idea.
ReplyDeleteLovely post.
My first Critters, nice to meet you.
This sounds like a lot of fun. The zebras must feel right at home with the climate.
ReplyDeleteA wonderful shot, Dina - Love the perspective from up above.
