A reflecting bench

.
Israel Antiquities Authority, Hebrew University Department of Archaeology, and the Moriah Construction Company yesterday gave a whole day of lectures about current and recent digs in and around Jerusalem. Over fifty of them (digs, not lectures)!
Lectures and some discussion from 8:30 am to 6:00 pm.
That is a lot of sitting.

The best presenters were the three archaeologists with whom I have been privileged to dig in the last few years.

Near the lecture hall I found this piece of art.
Its bench is available for sitting . . .

. . . if you don't mind the strangeness of sitting on a mirror!
.
.
This will fit nicely into both our Friday bench meme (see more at RuneE's Virtual Norway) and the reflection meme (visit James' Newtown Area Photo).
.
Shabbat shalom and bon weekend to all.

  1. You live in such a wonderful History laden area of the world.
Many interesting finds to be yet found in the digs...and history unveiled.

  2. Sitting on a mirror - nor bad. I hope it is unbreakable. I don't want anyone to have more bad luck than necessary...

  3. That really must be a strange feeling to sit on a mirror. You lead such an interesting life, Dina. Thank you for the blog referral about Columbus. Very interesting, indeed.

  4. Sitting on a mirror is OK unless one is wearing a miniskirt! Please share sometime some of what you are digging. Sounds fascinating.

Loved the call to prayer in the Armenian church. Love the way a still picture moves on demand. It is all so "Harry Potterish" to me!

  5. That is a lovely (and large!) bench, but I think I'd be afraid of sitting on it for fear of cracking it!

And I'm glad you clarified that about the 50… ;)

  6. Very beautiful bench and extraordinary unusual. You must have been exhausted after a day of listening to lectures even if they are that interesting. I think the history of your country is so old that even if you keep digging, you will always find something worthwhile.
Dina, tomorrow I am leaving for France. I don't use the comment moderation while I am away, for otherwise my e-mail box will be too full.I'll be back by the end of October. Only my ABC post will appear on my blog, for it's scheduled. Shalom Shabbat!

  8. I'm coming over from James Weekend Reflections.

Your world is full of history and artifacts. I think I would be scared of sitting on a mirror bench, hehehe, and that's a lot of sitting hours of lecture!

  11. this is an interesting peace of sculpture, and bench! Dina.

a whole day sitting for lectures sound a bit tiring, but may not be if the presentations are great.

  12. How unusual, a bench made out of a mirror. Funny that no one was sitting on it! The Archaeology lectures sound interesting too.

  14. Hi Dina!
Thanks for another comment on my blog. So nice you can see an angel on my photo! However I'm convinced the Allmighty has a lot of angels around Jerusalem (and Israel). The moonphoto is not over a lake, it is Oslofjorden (the ocean) we enjoy having so near!

Very interesting pictures and story you have today! It is so great that Israels history and the Bible is so well documented also historical. Your people have had the great task to take care of the Word of God. And this you have done so conscientious.
No other religion is comparable to this. The one and only God is the Truth, and have made Himself known to the world!
We who believe in Him, do not need to believe in adventures!
    Shabat shalom!

  15. Shalom friends and thanks for your welcome presence and comments!

    Some I have answered off-blog.

Bestemor, what I wrote about your photo of the Tower of David is "angle," as in perspective, location from which your photo was taken. Not angel, as in seraphim. I don't claim to see angels flying! :D

  17. How unusual - a bench of mirrors is such an appropriate place to sit and reflect.

  18. As long as that mirror doesn't break!

  19. Unique for me as I collect benches of pphotos and have never before seen one made of a mirror. I bet it is cold to sit on but if you need a break, it would be a welcome sight! Interesting place where it resides!

  23. Hi Dina, here I am after another absence, much longer than I wished; but it seems yours has been even longer... ;)
Interesting post! Digging in Jerusalem must be a stimulating experience!

Blogtrotter is still travelling in Turkey. Enjoy and have a great weekend!

  24. Hi again!
Now I see what you meant!
However I did not believe that you actually saw an angel, but that you saw a pattern in the clouds like an angel!
    No big deal!

  27. Hi Dina, That is quite an unusual bench! I think it would be strange to sit on a mirror!
Somehow the sculpture reminds me of pictures I have seen of elevated pulpits...

  28. I can't imagine being comfortable sitting on a mirror.

  29. Great photos, with wonderful geometrics, light and contrasts.

I'm sure it was an interesting way to spend the hours.

  30. Somehow I missed this post. Sitting on a mirror? I would worry about breaking it in some way and then have seven years of bad luck.
