Sun down, moon up

.
Autumn in Israel is the season for dramatic sunsets and moonrises.

Enlarge the picture above and you might think the rings of Saturn had jumped over to the sun.

Nope. The "rings" stayed where they were in the cloud as the sun slipped behind the little choobchik mountain at 4:28 p.m.

Yesterday at 4:58 p.m. I looked out my window just in time to see the moon rising over the west edge of Jerusalem.
.
Happy SkyWatch Friday to you, wherever you are.

  2. What marvelous views, Dina. I'm sure I could seat there just watching the sun goes down or enjoying the night scene with the moon and stars (something I can't do on a normal day without going out of town onto higher grounds at the outskirt of the city.)

  3. These photos are great. I really like the one of the moon. You were able to capture the craters, as well as still seem the buildings on the land. Great job in balancing the lighting. That can be very tricky.

  5. Lovely photos! Strange that your sun sets so early in the day. Here in Hawaii, it sets AFTER 6 pm.

  12. Great photos.

Amazing that the sun sets so early. Here in UAE, the sun sets at almost 06:00 PM. I think the weather in your place is also cool.

  18. I also love the moon picture.

I just love autumn sunset pictures. For some reason there are all sorts of optical effects that add to the effect.

  24. Incredible captures, Dina. I just posted a moon shot that I took on Monday. It's nice to know that, although thousands of miles apart, we are gazing on the same loveliness of God's creation.
