Out of the mouth of babes

.
PSALM  8  has some of the best verses ever!
For Daily Athens Robert's weekly Psalm Challenge,  here it is.
.
1. For the leader, on the gittith. A psalm. Of David.

2. O LORD, our Lord, How majestic is Your name in all the earth, You, whose splendor is placed above the heavens!

3. From the mouth of infants and sucklings, You have founded strength because of  Your foes, to put an end to enemy and avenger.

4. When I look at Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and stars that You set in place -
5. what is man that You have taken note of him, mortal man that You have paid heed to him,
6. that You have made him little less than God, and adorned him with honor and glory?

7. You have made him master over the work of Your hands, all You have laid at his feet:
8. sheep and oxen, all of them, and wild beasts, too;
9. the birds of the heavens, the fish of the sea, whatever travels along the paths of the seas.

10. O LORD, our Lord, How majestic is Your name in all the earth!

I hope you will look at the contributions of other bloggers  (or join us, even better!).   If you find there various and very different translations of verse 6, it is because the Hebrew word elohim can mean either God or gods.

  1. Dina, I must be getting more emotional as I grow older. The beauty of the psalms makes me want to weep. And, the beauty of the child is priceless!

  2. How wonderful is our Creator, that poets write verses to His praise, that painters like Michelangelo show His fingers.
The baby is a perfect work of creation. Is it your grandchild?
You are right Psalm 8 is a great and wonderful psalm.

  3. Kate shalom. This is a good thing. Sometimes I am surprised when my eyes are teary after reading an especially sad or moving blog post.

Wil, I hope God enjoys the art and music that people create for him.
Yes, this is Dean, my first grandson. I was there in Australia for his birth in 2002. In this photo he is yawning.

  5. Dina, you do such an interesting, great job with your Psalm challenge!
BTW, last night at the St. Olaf College "Black and Gold gala," one of the live auction items was a 6 day trip to Jerusalem including a dinner for 6 on the Mount of Olives! I say to my wife, "We could have dinner with Dina there!" The trip fetched a several thousand $$$ bid from someone else!

  8. What I love about your entries, is the fact, that one is able to see your pictures and many times even by looking at them, able to 'see' the Psalm itself.
Thank you very much for your participation. May time and life continue to treat him kind.

Please have you all a good start into the new week.

  9. hello beautiful Dina, today my god is light and the maker of all love.
What a beautiful post. Is that you holding the baby? How adorable.

There is a quote in the christian bible I don't have it right in front of me but I always enjoyed it having worked with youth all my life-

all those who welcome children in my name shall attain heaven...

I also enjoy religious art. I love Michelangelo's work and it was awesome to see it in Rome- the sisteen chapel. His figures do infuse me with divine strength.

I do see myself as a worldy kind of person but with a strong sense of spirituality. I remember attending mass in Asissi and the peasants kneeling on the stone floor to honour the communion and I thought of the biblical quote-
and the meek shall inheret the earth.
But the music was beautiful also in that small church- another vehicle to the sublime.

    beautiful presentation.
    thankyou
    shalom
