Leonard Cohen wrote "Bird on the Wire" in 1968, the year I flew away from America to make my home in Israel. Cohen came to sing in Israel in 1980 and made a nice variation in the first verse:
Like a bird on the wire,
Like a drunk in a midnight choir
I have tried in my way to be free.
Like a worm on a hook,
Like a monk bending (down) over the Book . . .
I have tried in my way to be free.
"Like a bird on the wire...
ReplyDeleteI have tried in my way to be free".
Beautiful shot. Good quotation.

ReplyDeletegreat post!
ReplyDeleteVery nice picture, and nice lyrics too.
ReplyDeleteI've tried too and I'll do it.
ReplyDeletewhat a cutie...
ReplyDeleteLeonard Cohen -- one of the greatest! Ah, 40 years is a lon-o-ong time. No wonder you feel so at home in Israel even though you were born in the U.S.
ReplyDeleteShalom and thanks, everyone!
ReplyDeleteMeead, I believe you will.
M.Kiwi, Which one, the bird or the monk? :)
I love the quote and the bird on a wire looks neat.
ReplyDeleteYou also caught a tiny moon in your photo. I love to see birds on wires. I sometimes dream about being able to levitate and move about the sky like a bird. Wishful thinking?
ReplyDeleteLovely quotation.
Hi Dina.
ReplyDeleteI don't like Leonard Cohen and this is good evidence to me of why I don't like him ha ha.
I love your presentation though.
Wow you came Israel 39 years ago. That is beautiful to come and live to your rich ancestral land.
Have a beautiful day.

ReplyDeleteWonderful shot of the "bird on the wire!" Great photo!
ReplyDeleteWonderful photo. I can never see a bird on a wire without thinking of this quote either!
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful weekend!
My Camera Critters Here and Here
I like the photo and the quote, although when I hear that phrase "Bird on a Wire" I think of the Mel Gibson/Goldie Hawn movie from the nineties I think.
ReplyDeleteFantastic post! This was very inspiring for me.
ReplyDeleteDina: Nice tie into your photo and story.
ReplyDeleteAgain a very nice combination of story and photo!
