The sky over Jerusalem last week.
Looking east from the Tower of David, we see the Old City with the tower of the (Lutheran) Church of the Redeemer and the gold Dome of the Rock on the Temple Mount, and on the horizon Mount Scopus and the Mount of Olives. If you enlarge the photo you can make out the arches of the Mormon university just right of the top of the white bell tower.
Same circles in the sky, but here we can see the gray rotundas of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre and the Redeemer Church bell tower. Hebrew University Mount Scopus campus is on the horizon.

Happy sky watching with other bloggers' new photos at SkyWatch Friday, starting tonight.
Cool photo. Ancient city, modern sky.
ReplyDeleteSky scribbling? Figure flying? That's interesting, Dina!
ReplyDeleteThose are totally cool sky shots!
ReplyDeleteGreat that you managed to catch those circles.
ReplyDeleteInteresting sky shots. I am guessing the circles are from an airplane. I visited Jerusalem in 1977 for a professional conference and enjoyed the beauty of the country.
ReplyDeleteHelicopters flying in circles?
ReplyDeleteHei Dina!
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures of the sky over Jerusalem. The circle var very special, looks like a glory!
Have read your blog lately - very much interesting! Beautiful picture of your grandson with the Thora scrolls.
Happy skywatch!
Love from

Really great shots, love seeing views of Jerusalem! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteWonderful view about Jerusalem. And the circles are very interesting!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful shots! I'd love to visit there sometimes.
ReplyDeleteare the rings clouds or the remains of vapour trails from planes?
ReplyDeleteThose circular clouds look marvellous, Dina! Did those clouds naturally occur? Were they the trace of an airplane?
ReplyDeleteShalom everyone. I DON'T KNOW! The circles are a mystery to me! I was in a group tour in the Museum of Jerusalem History when we came out onto the tower for a panorama view. So what was in the sky before that, I don't know.
ReplyDeleteWe don't have sky-writers. RuneE asks if there had been helicopters flying in circles. This is logical. Could well be. But do helicopters leave such trails? I've never seen this before.
Many are the mysteries in the Holy City. Sometimes it is just better to let a mystery be a mystery. :)
Eki, there were a few other very light, wispy clouds in a blue sky that warm day. But none in this round shape.
ReplyDeleteI love coming to see you, I'm always assured to go back in Paris with new informations, even for Sky Watch.
ReplyDeleteI think that many of us will wonder for a long time what kind of flying machines could make such circles.
The first photo looks like a 'halo' over the Holy City!
ReplyDeleteCatherine, "flying machines," that's cool!
ReplyDeleteKaybee, a halo! Now we're talking Holy City, yay!
Neat! Are they from an airplane?
ReplyDeleteWow! isn't the cool. It's beautiful shots.
ReplyDeleteNice circles. Neat SWF
ReplyDeletewhat neat shots, did air planes do that.......

ReplyDeletebeautiful Dina.

ReplyDeleteHallo Dina, thank you for the picturs of the great sky over Jerusalem! The white circles are interesting! :)
ReplyDeleteThe hotel on my picture is called "The Ring", http://www.theringhotel.com/, I think it has the most stunning Christmas decoration around! The blue little lamps look like a waterfall or so!
Great pictures of a spectacular city :)
ReplyDeletethis is so beautiful
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your concern and good wishes.
Hello Dina!
ReplyDeleteI am going to enjoy your pictures and comments about the Holy City...
Both shots are fascinating! Those clouds almost seem to be forming a spiralling halo over the old worlds!
ReplyDeleteLovely pictures of your area, and the sky!
ReplyDeleteAre the circles or are they Halos!
ReplyDeleteDina, these are great landscapes. The nice circles in the sky add charm to the images.
ReplyDeleteDina, what a beautiful SWF post! I think you are right, there are many mysteries in the Holy City and this must just be one more!! Lovely post!!
ReplyDeleteVery interesting shots. I like the circles in the sky and it's nice to get a glimpse of Jerusalem.
ReplyDeleteThe circles are so much fun.
ReplyDeletelionsmane
Love these photos. The circles definitely look man-made, but maybe not.
ReplyDeleteGreat shots of the city and I like the circles in the sky. :-)
ReplyDeleteGreat shots of a beautiful city. The circles in the skjy crown the pictures for sure.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend.
What a fascinating skywatch, Dina. Helicopters don't leave such trails. Mystery indeed. And why not? Jerusalem is a city of mysteries.
ReplyDeleteSo good to be back and thanks for your comments. The last month has been very sad. We had to rush home to be with my sister-in-law who very bravely lost her battle with melanoma not long after we got there.
ReplyDeleteThe Mumbai horror has left me numb too and that dear couple on your post yesterday who we now know lost their lives is just too terrible to contemplate. Surely they don't think this is what their God would have wanted???
It is peace in Mumbai at last.
ReplyDeleteThank you for all your prayers and good wishes.
Pray for all those who lost their lives and may God give strength to their near and dear ones to bear their irreparable loss.
What an unusual sky! It's a modern halo over the holy city.
ReplyDeleteThe circles in the sky immediately called to mind the Biblical story of Ezekiel who saw the wheel in sky. Most interesting photo, Dina.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos of the Jerusalem sky.
ReplyDeleteWow, neat shot, beautiful city.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photo of the city. I really want to come visit sometime.
ReplyDelete*hugs*
