Joyful at the Western Wall

.
Shalom, welcome to the Western Wall in Jerusalem's Old City!
.
(Photos enlarge with a click.)
And just because the Wall is the only remnant of the Temple complex does not mean it is holy only to Jews. Look at all these Evangelical Christians singing and shouting for joy!

Hands high in praise!
Hallelujah -- הללויה
.
Just behind the Western Wall is the Temple Mount or in Arabic, al-Haram al-Sharif الحرم الشريف (the Noble Sanctuary), home to Al-Aksa Mosque and the golden Dome of the Rock. The whole mount there on top is administered by the Muslim Wakf.
.
So there you have it! In one small space the three great monotheistic religions.

  8. I wish the peoples of these religions could support each other as do the stone and brick of these walls.

  14. Abe, yeah, peace peace, but mostly everyone wants a piece of Jerusalem.

Paty, fear not (as the angels always said), it is safe.

Cath, shalom. You're right, the place is full of awe.

    Pietro, you've got the spirit!
    :)

    Wil, great, come!

Leif, yes, at the urging of you and a few other readers, I applied to the City Daily Photo and the blog was accepted today. Yay!

Troy and Martha, thanks. Loved your boots on the fence post.

Mkreider, that is a fine image to think about. I wish, too.

Tranquility hello. Come and you will find much tranquility in this country. But that is not something exciting to show on the news abroad.

Thanks Guy. Good week to you too.

  16. I think you got it right again with everyone wants a piece of Jerusalem, but I do wish for peace in our time. The wall has always been a source of fascination for the focus and pull it has of more than one religion.

  17. Definitely a special place. I'm not religious but I did say a prayer there when my mother was in hospital and I was so far away.

And I find it absolutely amazing. I just wish it didn't have to lead to so much misunderstanding and violence :(

On a lighter note, glad to finally see you in CDP! Took you long enough ;)

  20. Dina it is so nice to see happiness at the wall rather than wailing in grief. How odd though with all the religious wars and all sides fighting each other over the same thing, The One God! Only each firghting to dominate the others because he has hold of a toe and the others have a finger or strand of hair of the same beaing. It is so sad that most people cannot see the wood for the trees.
