Disappearing in dust

.
Today was a blustery chilly day.
So much dirt was flying in the air, I had to squint to protect my eyes.

This was the "view," or lack of it, from our hillside in mid-afternoon.
As if part of the Jerusalem Hills had disappeared.

On a normal day in this season the view should be like this (shot from the same place). We can see down toward the valley and across to the next hill.
.
Check out some clear blue skies over at the nice weekly meme, SkyWatch Friday.

  1. It's unbelievable today, isn't it. I also blogged about the weather for this week's Skywatch but I took the opposite tack and blogged an image from last summer. Today's sky was too depressing to shoot, at least here in the merkaz.

  2. Dina, I live near Haifa and it has been raining all day almost- not that I am complaining!

  3. Winds are very unpleasant but the view so beautiful when it is clear. (Dina, in regard to "Avignon daily photo", what does kaki mean in Hebrew, or do I have to call my temple to find out?)

  4. I like to see the mood changes, thanks for showing them.
It was CHAOS here today. Snow+public transport strike... Spent 5 hours in the car...

  5. No Bethlehem star for you today! ;-)

  6. Dina, what a picturesque view from your village. Nice post for Sky Watch, you have very well described the two weather situations.

  7. Oh wow! NO fun! It's kind of like our vog view. In fact, we're stuck with vog again these past couple days and it's quite gloomy.

  8. I do hope that you'll weekend and especially your Sabbath will be free of dust. Here it's snowing again.

  9. Robin, depressing? Maybe, but it was wonderfully weird in a way.

    Suzanne, you're near Haifa?! Shalom!
Good, at least your clouds were productive.

Nadege, NO, NO, don't do that, please! LOL Kaki in French means persimmon, but the name cracks me up. In Hebrew children's language kaka or kaki means poop, merd.

Ciel, oi veh, no fun for you today. That's terrible.

RuneE, yeah, no star of Bethlehem today because it got stuck in your bridge in Norway!

Pietro, yes, whichever direction we look from our "mountain" the view is wonderful. Growing up in flat urban Chicago, I always dreamed of living in forested hills someday.

Kay, vog in Hawaii is not very healthy I think. Take care. Here people were told not to go jogging today because of the dust.

  10. Wil, it rained a lot in the north today and the rain is now making its way south to Jerusalem and then the Negev desert. So that should clear out the dust.

  11. We have volcanic haze: "Vog" here in Honolulu today. Tonight the front will come through refreshing with rain and clearing the skies...

    Shalom & Aloha, Dina

  14. This reminds me of that day in September when our Sydney skies were filled with dust. Not very good at all for the lungs.

Good comparison shot so that we fully appreciate what is beneath all the dust.

  17. When I was growing up in New Mexico a family we knew who spent some time living in Israel would tell us that New Mexico and Israel had similar weather. Sometimes we had bad dust storms just like what you are showing.

  18. Ugh. Been in a dust storm like that in West Texas. It is no fun. Love the other photos.

  19. Stay inside out of that dust storm..but enjoy the Holidays you have there.

  20. An especially interesting skywatch, showing the dust in the air. It's a nice photo, too.
