In the intercity train

.
For ABC Wednesday I-day, you are invited inside the Israel Railways.
.
All aboard!
.
Hmm, where is everyone?
I almost had the whole train to myself.
The Tel Aviv-Jerusalem route is not so popular; the journey takes one hour and 45 minutes, compared to 45 minutes by bus.
.
Tables are useful and they also give a bit of separation in case you don't relish sitting face-to-face with two strangers.
.
Eeuw, who picked up that pink color for the railings?
.
You technical readers can enlarge this chart and learn all the specifications, e.g. that the train was made in Denmark.
.
Stickers remind you to be polite and leave the seats nearest the door for your elders.
.
The Hebrew is verse 32a of Leviticus 19 (the one positive commandment in a chapter of thou-shall-not's).
God tells Moses to say to all the congregation of the people of Israel:
.
" 'You shall rise up before the hoary head, and honor the face of an old man . . .' "
.

  2. Spacedlaw, in all fairness I must admit that the train was standing at the platform a whole half an hour before departure time. So I had the nice opportunity to walk up and down its whole length and take lots of pictures.
But even when we departed Tel Aviv there were no more than 6 passengers in each coach.

  3. I wish we had more train service in the US; the Republicans seem particularly hostile to them.

  5. Wow, I would have thought a train would always be faster than the bus - maybe it goes a long way round

  7. This must be a very new train! It looks so clean and modern. Wonderful that old Moses even now tells modern youth to honor old people.

  8. The train reminds me of the trains in England, with the tables, etc.

    Nice captures.

  9. Buses are stinky vehicles that pollute city air and waste petrol. Trains are very clean, carry far more people and are fast. So I wonder why the Tel Aviv-Jerusalem route takes an hour and 45 minutes. The entire country, from coast to border, is TINY.

    I love trains :)

  11. I remember a very different kind of train on that line, but I never took it. The railway station was too faraway and the bus ride shorter. I guess the view is still worth a trip!

  13. Dina, this train looks a bit like the TEE or like our new Frecciarossa. Very good description of the inside.

  15. A train to myself, I would love, but why so much longer than the bus. Here in Michigan, the train will take me to Chicago much faster than the bus.
