Summer camp for kids in nature

.

The pondside restaurant is reflected several times in the mirror-like facade of the Jerusalem Botanical Gardens, known as " a 30-acre retreat of beauty and tranquility in the heart of Israel's largest metropolis."

The banner announces the opening, on July 1, of  "Nature's Children Summer Camp" for kindergarten to 4th grade kids.
Sixteen mornings of learning and fun for 1,480 shekels (= $407).

The webpage about the camp calls it

An Adventure of Discovery into the Wondrous World of Plants

Who had such money when I was a kid growing up in Chicago?!
I remember learning about nature in the empty lot next door, the forest preserves, and the Lake Michigan beaches -- all for free.

  2. I do not know what to say:-) It's great to go on camp as a child, but lucky I do not have to pay for that my children will learn about the nature.

    Happy weekend!

  4. It does sound rather a lot of money but I like the reflections nevertheless.

  6. Those were the days Dina. The Jerusalem Botanical Garden is so beautiful, hope the kids have fun. I grew up with a vacant lot too and a park in St. Louis.

  7. Sorry, now I love to watch nature on a TV screen from my couch, but I guess the boys will enjoy this a lot. I did when I was their age!

  8. Neat reflection! I hope the children enjoy themselves and learn some things. I didn't go to camps when I was a boy but I still enjoyed nature for free. :-)

  10. I've been reading a series of books set in Chicago and before that I never realized that Chicago had "lake" beaches ... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beaches_in_Chicago

  11. Crystal, thanks for the link. I found my own beaches from my youth in the Wiki photos! But then there were not all those highrises along the waterfront.

  12. I do love it that children have more places to learn about nature these days. And yet, when I think about it... I learned a lot just from being able to run around everywhere in our town when it didn't have so much concrete.

  13. Wow, that really is a lot of money! I don't know how people afford these camps, and it's only 16 days!
    Lovely reflections, though :)

  14. wow, we never could have afforded such a camp, even though it sounds wonderful! our boys went to Boy Scout camp yearly; their dad was their Cub Scout leader and Boy Scout leader.

  15. Times change! It's too bad kids can't just go out and play these days. But better a camp like this than sitting in the house with a video game!
