Olive blossoms

The olive trees here in the Jerusalem Hills have many tiny blossoms just now. Looks like this year it will be a good harvest in the fall.

  5. I heard a radio show once that explained the olive harvest in your region is very much a community event that brings people together.

Olive orchards have been started here in my county, since we have the climate for vinyards as well. Olive trees are so beautifully twisted as they grow old. Nice to be reminded of them.

  6. The Jerusalem Hills have olive trees everywhere. The olives that I help harvest are on land of neighbor friends, nuns, actually. They pickle some of them and some get pressed for oil. You are all invited to come and pick in the fall. It takes weeks because they believe in picking each olive individually. The Arab method is to put a sheet under the tree and hit the branches with a stick until the olives fall to the ground.
The sisters took me with to see the olives pressed at a monastery. I'll post about it.
