Not by bread alone

This week's Torah reading (parashat hashavua) contains the famous statement in Deuteronomy 8:3b that reminds us of the true source of human sustenance:

". . . man does not live by bread alone, but by everything that comes from the mouth of the Lord."

כִּי לֹא עַל-הַלֶּחֶם לְבַדּוֹ יִחְיֶה הָאָדָם--כִּי עַל-כָּל-מוֹצָא פִי-יְהוָה, יִחְיֶה הָאָדָם

Shabbat shalom, Sabbath peace, to you.

  5. And Shabbat Shalom, to you, too, Dina!

That verse is one of "Louis's" favorites. "Louis" also loves to bake bread. It was for this reason he moved to Paris - to attend L'école boulangerie et pâtisserie de Paris. "Louis" also privately published a book on baking bread. Between the recipes, he had every quote from the Bible he could find about bread.

  6. There is something very satisfying about kneeding bread. I have a bread machine as my arms aren't strong enough anymore, but I miss punching the dough. Great tension reliever.

  8. Shabbat shalom, Dina.

Thankyou for another beautiful blessing from Jerusalem.

and may peace be with you.(the catholic blessing. We say that at mass and hold hands with the people around us. It is a nice blessing because if you are sitting next to a stranger the wall dissolves between you and the stranger.

yes we can't live on bread alone but it does look good.

    thanks for a beautiful presentation.

  12. Dina, thank you for the additional comments Chez Louis. When "Louis" et Mme. la Vache were married, they included a prayer based on the Kiddush and their wedding folder quoted the Kiddush and its meaning.
