Jerusalem on American TV tonight!

At the end of the highway, at the entrance to Jerusalem, this sign welcomes you.
Bruchim ha-baim. Literally the Hebrew means "Blessed are those who come."

But if you are in the other lane, leaving Jerusalem, you will see the other blessing:
Tsetchem leshalom, "Go toward peace."
.
North Americans, tonight you can see a PBS special on TV called "Jerusalem: Center of the World"!
From their website (where you can also check the broadcast time for your city):
"Host Ray Suarez of The NewsHour With Jim Lehrer, together with an outstanding roster of scholars, explores the founding of the city, and the birth and convergence of the world's three major monotheistic religions. He lends voice to the key events in the city's history as described in the Hebrew and Christian Bibles, the Talmud, the Hagaddah, the Koran, and the Hadith."

  3. Thanks for the heads-up, Dina. I checked to be sure it's running this evening and have set my DVR to tape it while I'm at church tonight. It will make good just-before-bed viewing.

  5. I watched from 20 min. into the program to the end. I quess few cities have a more rich history than Jerusalem, with so many groups making it thier religious center.
It was more of an overview of the history of Jerusalem from Hezekiah on, who built the water system till now. Had hoped they would tell more about when Israel became a state(1948, as well as the present day Jerusalem.

  6. The show is on tonight on PBS so we'll try to watch as much of it as we can. It's runs until pretty late. My mom says she'd like to see it too so I'll have a lot of translating to do.
