BYU

.
Did you know Jerusalem has a Mormon university?

On the left of the photo you see its graceful arches built on 8 different levels on Mount Scopus.

Brigham Young University Jerusalem Center for Near Eastern Studies was opened in 1987.
.
It is even more beautiful inside. You can see the video or take the virtual tour at their website.
Read about the sometimes troubled history of the building of the campus at Wikipedia.
.
If you are ever in town, take the one hour guided tour, complete with organ recital.
.
Enjoy other tours in different places around the world at That's My World Tuesday meme.

  1. Oh, that's wonderful, Dina. There is so much evidence that Israel doesn't want religious wars, but territorial disputes in that area always look like religious wars. So sad.

  3. Hi Dina, Thanks for all your wonderful comments throughout the year, and I am sorry I cannot visit your blog more frequently - just keeping up my own postings is often a reach! At the moment we have overseas guests too. Nevertheless, I wish you and your loved ones a very happy new Year! Sally

  6. I'm surprised to see BYU in Jerusalem! The Mormons are making a lot of television commercials over here these days! I sat next to a Mormon girl in high school orchestra - she was very nice and quite funny!

  8. If I did know, I forgot. I do remember that building, however. I like all the arches. Can't wait to see more of Jerusalem in the months ahead!

  9. I would never have guessed this, but it's probably not surprising as the Mormons have outreach everywhere. I'll have to take the tour if I ever make it to Jerusalem.

  10. Mormons do build beautiful temples. They have a gorgeous and famous temple in Laie on Oahu.

  12. I would not be surprised to hear about a Mormon temple in Jerusalem, but a university is something else. I did hear the Mormon Choir in Salt Lake City.
