Sacristan duties on a ladder

.
A brave Benedictine nun positioned a ladder on the stairs leading down to the crypt and climbed up to extinguish the candle at one of the stations of the cross.
This was after the Epiphany Mass last Thursday.
I think you have to be surefooted as a mountain goat to take care of the tall 12th C. Crusader church.
.
The church and the Abbey of St. Mary of the Resurrection are behind the tall trees.
I imagine the nuns and monks hear quite well the muezzin's call to prayer five times a day, as the minaret is just to the left of their compound.
.
Abu Ghosh is a Muslim Israeli Arab town west of Jerusalem.
Its restaurants are always full of Israeli Jews who appreciate their Middle Eastern food.

  1. I have a fear of heights and seeing this monk on the ladder placed on a staircase makes me feel dizzy. You were also brave to take this photo!

  5. What a brave nun, I think she felt protected in her mission.
I have never been in Abu Gosh, maybe it was the sound of the name, and it seems that I missed something...

  6. Wil, really. I could hardly believe my eyes.
If I was brave to take the picture, maybe, but I just could not resist. And you notice I took it stealthily, with no flash.

Sara, thanks. I think anything in that church looks like a painting, like from the Middle Ages.

Rob and Mandy, the restaurant of the Abu Ghosh family where we ate on Thursday won the Guinness Record in 2010 for making the biggest plate of hummus. I think they used a satellite dish.

Ciel, as you know, all nun shots are gems. :)

Jew Wishes, yes, they are fearless.

VP, well, the town is only famous for the two churches and for being the Hummus Capital of Israel.

Bergson, wait a minute -- she was a YOUNG lady! But it was still dangerous, IMHO.
