Beep beep! Honk!

.
OK, today is Ride to Work Day, but this is ridiculous!
A guy was riding a horse, without a saddle, in the middle of one of Jerusalem's noisiest and most congested intersections, during evening rush hour!

Actually the annual Ride to Work Day was started by some Americans and refers to motorcycles, not equines.

I have done four motorcycle posts in my four years of blogging.
I love both motorcycles and horses, but riding either on Israeli streets these days is too foolhardy for me.

  1. Doomed to loose - just ONE hp? Against all the others? :-)

Thank you for the nice comments!

  2. The Israeli's love their car horns I noticed...honk, honk, honk all over the place. Poor horse, either he's used to all the noise or else he might be a nervous wreck!

  4. I think the world would be far better off if we all went back to horses as our primary means of transportation. The big cities would probably shrink and tourists would disappear but it would be the best thing for the planet.

  5. Do you have those stickers in Israel, you know: honk if you're happy, honk if you love Jesus (amongst many many more)?

  6. Rob and Mandy,
I don't think we have those bumper stickers here.

  7. Beep and honk is a nightmare. We never use the horn here.. We are so patient, haha (not)

  8. I haven't seen many horses around lately, but I did come across 4 boys trying to hitch up a donkey to a cart on what is normally a very average residential street the other day. Mangy looking thing too, I hope he was just shedding his winter coat or something?

  10. What a brave rider taking his horse through that traffic.

  11. Great mean to measure time and life. Must be nearly two decades since last I've been on a horse.

    Please have a good Tuesday.
And yes, to honk is a nearly must over here.

  12. I think anyone on a horse in heavy traffic is either very courageous or very foolhardy. But it would be nice if there wasn't so much car traffic wouldn't it?

  13. Can't see too many push bikes or motor bikes there... people still like their cars, even on Ride To Work Day. I would make it a Take Public Transport to Work Day instead.

  14. I was especially - how shall I put it? - astonished with such scenes in cities like Cairo or Delhi. Donkeys, camels, elephants, you name it. Poor animals, I can imagine their stress.

  15. JM, but HERE it is not normal. And imagine MY stress watching this scene. The guy was just prancing around the intersection, not really headed anywhere; either he was just showing off or just plain crazy.

  16. Helen, the public would not go for a Take Public Transport to Work Day. We in Jerusalem are angry at the bad changes the new tram and the reduction of bus lines have brought us.

  17. I think I know WHY they were mesmerized... Boobies!

  18. I walk to work in five minutes and it is quite dangerous anyway...

  19. Anything that is ridden on in such heavy traffic is dangerous! Great capture, Dina.

  20. As I have discovered in my limited travels, driving culture varies considerably from location to location... even in the same country.

So it comes as no surprise to read about your experiences.

    Cheers,
    Daniel
