Continuing the topic of world water shortage, I'd like to draw your attention to a short video of a beautiful and smiling woman drawing water--so gracefully--from a well in Senegal.
The Heifer Blog posted it for Blog Action Day.
.
Heifer International is a great organization that gives livestock, training, and hope to needy families around the world.
Heifer Ranch volunteers, ca. 1997

You can see from this photo what fun it is to be a volunteer at the Learning Center at Heifer Ranch .
.
I worked and lived with young folks like these at the Ranch in Arkansas from 1996 to 2002 (that's me on the right).
The kids did mostly guiding and experiential education work with the thousands of visitors who come through the ranch every year.
I got to take care of livestock and teach young work-campers how we do chores, and sometimes I worked in the organic gardens.
.
You too can contribute to Heifer's noble work, with gifts of your time or your money.
Christmas, Chanuka, birthdays are coming. Give the gift of hope, buy an animal or a share of an animal, through the unique gift catalog.
.
Not only gracefully, but with a smile. A hard life. Good post, Dina.
ReplyDeleteI had not heard of this group until I read your blog post. So that is the younger you.
ReplyDeleteThe Heifer project is a wonderful thing! Our church has done it and it's a great learning example for kids!
ReplyDeleteDina: Thank you for championing this very important cause-- protecting our world's water supply. Is there any hope in sight for the drought to end in Israel? To what is is attributed?
ReplyDeleteThere are still some very good guys around the world!
ReplyDeleteWomen in Africa work very hard and they do it gracefully, like you said! Heifer is a wonderful organization. When I was young I always went to workcamps where I met a lot of young people from all over the world. Some of them I still see or write to. The Danish friend I wrote about in my next post, died a few years ago. He was my age.
ReplyDeleteThe water problem is enormous. It's a pity that we cannot send it to the dry parts of the world, as we have too much.
An excellent organization. We give to Heifer International every year for business gifts--for people who just don't want to see another pre-fab food basket in the office. They're always so pleased to receive that card that says we've donated to Heifer in their name.
ReplyDeleteVery good guys, how wonderful to see them!
ReplyDeleteEver since you brought Heifer to our attention, we have contributed to it. It's a great organization. I loved seeing that photo of you!
