Keep looking up

.
I'm just a Jew, what do I know--but I have a feeling that during Holy Week Christians can sense Jesus peeking through into their lives.
And I think that whether they are religious or not, they try to catch a glimpse of him too.

Especially as the intensity grows, from Maundy Thursday to Good Friday, from Holy Saturday to Easter Sunday.
Here in the Holy Land at least, this is all quite palpable.

At such times the sun sends dramatic shafts of light into the dim Church of the Holy Sepulchre.

A protected tapestry on the wall reflects the same dome of the Greek Orthodox Catholicon.
Light is all around.

  1. You are so right, Dina: "during Holy Week Christians can sense Jesus peeking through into their lives". Of course Christians must remember that Jesus is with them not only during the Holy Week and at Easter: He is really with them every day of their life, till the end of the world.
    Have a pleasant day :-)

  5. Architecture by itself can aid spirituality... your photos show the soaring structure and the magical light. I am just a Jew too but I love the impact of the church's original design.

  7. It was only today afternoon, that I read, that it 'happens' all of a sudden, even without knowing, that there will be a light ...

A wonderful entry of yours indeed. May your Thursday be all bright and kind.

(Due to Easter Sunday I'd like to make a Easter Sunday, and continue with the Psalms the following week. Of great joy to see you !)

  10. That is an awe inspiring sight. Gracious! I actually forgot it was Easter until a friend invited us to an Easter dinner. My brain is asleep.

  11. Thank you for showing these beautiful murals in the Greek Orthodox Cathedral! The Greek churches are always so beautifully decorated. Our protestant churches are so much soberer and we have no images of saints or Jesus.
This Holy Week starts tonight with Holy Communion. Tomorrow I will be listening to St Matthew Passion by J.S.Bach.

  14. Great shots, Dina! And, I think you are right re Christians and the light. I might not be a Christian, but can certainly understand. I think many Jews try to gain a sense of G-d in their lives, during certain holidays, such as Pesach and the High Holy Days.
