Metal in the sky

. For Sky Watch Friday here is a clear blue Jerusalem sky, but cluttered with cranes and electric tram wires.
.
The tram is shown going down the middle of Jaffa Road, next to the Machane Yehuda market.
The testing period has just been extended.
Hopefully in a few more weeks the light rail will be proclaimed safe enough to take the first human guinea pig passengers.

  1. I suspect they're working more on systems than safety at this stage (in J'lem the most difficult safety issue is probably keeping all those wandering about lost in thought from blundering onto the track!). After 20 years working on (often fruitless) Israeli infrastructure projects I can't wait to see the system in operation!

  2. Looks like a fun way to ride around town! Maybe you'll show us a view through its windows in the coming weeks....

  3. When I travel to Mexico, I see similar clutter overhead. It used to annoy me, because I wanted sky, not electric wires! But now I realise it's just part of the place, so I snap away happily (if somewhat wistfully).

    STORYTELLER

    The sky, whether deep blue or grey,
    Has stories to tell every day;
    So if the day’s clear,
    Be sure to draw near—
    The heavens know just what to say!

  4. You've got a bright blue sky and some neat reflections in your spiffy new train, but Dina, honestly, those wires are NADA compared to what I'm seeing here! :-D I can hardly shoot a thing without two dozen wires getting in the way...

  7. In Turin we have many cranes (for the endless works in the town...) and electric tram wires as well. Our trams have an older look.

  8. Friday already? Good grief! Wasn't yesterday Monday? Glad you got a great day. Our Tai Chi class rained out today and we were drenched.

  9. Why would it be unsafe? Trams had been around for more than a century now... Maybe the driver need some more practice?
