Nutella

.
Not so nice news for ABC Wednesday N-Day.
.
Pietro Ferrero, CEO of the Ferrero Group holding company that produces Nutella, Kinder, Ferrero Rocher, Tic Tac mints, and other sweet things, died today at age 47 after an accident in South Africa.
.
A cbcnews article explains that

"Ferrero's namesake grandfather, Pietro, started the company in 1942, supplying products for a pastry shop run by his wife, Piera, in Italy's northwestern town of Alba. Because it was hard to obtain ingredients for sweets during the Second World War, the elder Pietro Ferrero decided to exploit something Piedmont had in abundance — hazelnuts — and invented a confection using a sweet paste made from the nut."
.
Since then Nutella has sweetened the lives of so many!
Thank you, Ferrero family.
May Pietro rest in peace.
.
Hat tip to Fabrizio at Torino Daily Photo for the news.

  2. Oh my goodness! We love Nutella here but I won't buy it too often because it's too easy to sit and watch TV with the jar and a spoon! LOL

  4. So very young...how tragic! That's why I don't buy Nutella either Leslie! I know I'd sit and eat it by the spoonful!

  7. My children loved nutella and so did I!
I ddn't know that Napoleon even Israel wanted to occupy. I know that he stole a lot of souvenirs from Egypt. He conquered all Europe except for a few countries like among others Great Britain and Russia.

  8. I don't know if we have Nutella itself around here, but be have plenty of look-a-likes :-) Very popular among the younger generation, as is the Kinder eggs. I hope the next generation in the firm will continue the tradition.

PS I'll remember to send you some snow in November :-)

  9. At the age of 47, that's much too young.
I love Nutella but, like Leslie, am afraid to buy it at home where all the spoons are kept. However, it seemed to show up every time we ate breakfast in a restaurant or a hotel breakfast-room in Europe. I ate more in one month than I have since the last time I bought some and ate it with a spoon.
Wonderful story about the elder Pietro inventing this delicious confection because of an abundance of hazelnuts. Very sad about the young man, however.

  11. Gosh! I've never heard of Kinder or Nutella. By the way, there was article in yesterday's paper about quinoa being a nice alternative for Passover. I thought about you.

  12. Can't keep Nutella around: I can empty a medium-sized jar in just minutes. Obviously with consequences...

  15. Okay, so now I am roaring with laughter, Dina... I join the crowd here who does not buy Nutella because it's too hard to resist to eat it straight out of the jar! Yes, pity for Pietro to go so young, but Nutella will no doubt live on. I've yet to taste a copycat spread that is as good.

  18. Too bad about the CEO. My daughters take Nutella and crackers to school for lunch sometimes, and I have a wicked nutella, dark chocolate, marshmellow fudge recipe that I make at Christmas, don't ask me for the recipe I just through it in a bowl and chill. Yum.

  20. Hi Dina♥ Hag Sameach! Heard about his death - very tragic! And Nutealla and Matza are best friends these days LOL. I will go to Jerusalem this Friday with my family. As an expert♥ do you have any ideas for something interesting to see. We always go to the Kotel, Davids Tower etc. Can we visit the church of St. Mary Magdalene that you posted about on a Friday? - looks interesting and pretty! Maybe combining that with something else nearby and the Kotel at the end. Hugs♥
