With great excitement our news media are right now beginning to announce that Gilad Schalit might soon be released!
Apparently Egypt has finally succeeded in negotiating a prisoner exchange deal.
Israel will release more than 1,000 Palestinian prisoners in exchange for our kidnapped soldier.
.
Prime Minister Netanyahu has summoned his ministers to Jerusalem for a government meeting this evening, within the hour.
Let's hope and pray it really happens!
.
The photo shows Noam Schalit, Gilad's father, last May. He and Gilad's mother have been sitting in their protest tent on the busy street corner next to the Prime Minister's residence for the past year.
Israel Television is right now showing the parents with the first traces of little smiles, with guarded optimism. The first time in five years that we have seen a smile on their worried faces.

I would not know who this young man is if not for you (forgive me, I live in that country where we hardly ever hear about stuff that doesn't happen to us) When I saw the headline, I could not beleive it! And he looks so young--only a few years older than my nephew. Saying a prayer that his family will know the joy of his homecoming.
ReplyDeleteI sure hope Gilad is able to return home. He is lucky to have parents who have been tenacious in their efforts to gain his release.
ReplyDeleteI hope all goes well - the news seems to think it will happen.
ReplyDeleteOh! I hope it is so.
ReplyDeleteI hope and pray that he can come home soon!

ReplyDeleteMakes you think about what 1000 and one lives are worth, though...
The news was also in my newspaper on the front page. Wonderful! Congrats!
ReplyDeleteLet's pray Gilad will be freed. Amazing how the world never seems to pick up on the difference 'life' means the value a life holds in varous cultures.
ReplyDeleteNot the best way to get his freedom, but the guy and his family really deserve this.
ReplyDeleteThis is great news. As you know, he is French also.....
ReplyDeleteLet us hope Maybe becomes Marvellous!
