Jackal jaws!
Perfect for J-Day at ABC Wednesday.
.
My American friends Mark and Kristine Schnarr were staying in a house near mine for a month this summer.
From the second floor terrace Kristine sighted this jackal early one morning and with her good zoom she got these two great photos.
.
Good job, Kristine!!
You can see other posts about jackals here (although my shots are not as close-up as Kristine's).
.
If you have never heard the resounding chorus of groups of jovial jackals, listen to the audio here and enjoy!

love from the north
I wouldn't like to meet that one up close!
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing catch, I've only ever heard them or seen them off at a great distance.

My photography is available for purchase - visit Around the Island Photography and bring home something beautiful today!
The beast looks quite at peace. Do his (or her) kind visit often?
ReplyDeleteHe reminds me of the coyotes we see around here sometimes, out in the more open country areas.
ReplyDeleteAround here (in the lower regions of the mountains where houses are built) you might see bears or cougars! It's a scary thing to see wild animals so close to civilization, but then I guess we're encroaching on what was originally their territory. Thanks for sharing this today! Have a great week. :D
ReplyDeleteShalom to Anonymous in the north and welcome. I would love to see a big beautiful fox like you did!
ReplyDeleteRuneE, don't worry, he was just yawning. But really, that's a LOT of teeth! I meet jackals in the woods or even behind my house, but they run away from me and not vice versa.
Robin, yeah, I've been trying for 4 years to get such a good jackal picture. Did you hear them on my video? They sound so funny in chorus!
Spacedlaw, yep, the jackals are all around our hill. You hear the groups call from one end of the valley to the other. One family starts yowling and then many more join in. At night they can be seen on our village streets, checking out the garbage bins or looking for dead or stray chickens from the many chicken houses.
Sara, I've never seen a coyote.
But we are in rural country, in the middle of the forested Jerusalem Hills, so it is paradise for the jackals.
And they are protected by law.
Hi Leslie. OK, bears and cougars up close--that would scare me.
ReplyDeleteThose are great captures of the jackal and what a good job for the letter J.
ReplyDeleteWow and good grief! Too close for comfort.
ReplyDeleteHappy Sukkot to you and yours, Dina!
What an interesting set of photos. A good capture for sure.
ReplyDeletePlease forgive me but I don't like these 'creatures' and I'd like to trade my camera for a rifle if I ever see one. And I hate hunting...
ReplyDeleteTo paraphrase "my what big teeth you have". Nothing like a yawn to start the day off, and perhaps too early to howl.
ReplyDeleteHow impressive a sight, as I've never seen any of them before and the sound, indeed, a strong impression.
ReplyDeletePlease have a good Wednesday.
daily athens
Is one of them named Carlos?
ReplyDeleteAh, your friend's Day of the Jackel!
ReplyDeleteROG, ABC Wednesday team
That's an amazing capture. That first picture looks a little frightening.
ReplyDeleteOh my! Those teeth look extremely sharp!
ReplyDeleteHow cool!
ReplyDeleteAloha from Honolulu
Comfort Spiral
Eek!
ReplyDeleteOh! He does not look friendly! Great shots your friend got.
ReplyDeleteNice shot. He is a bit worrying!
ReplyDeleteDon't you love the different worlds we visit on a Wednesday? This is a sight we would never see here in Yorkshire! lol!
ReplyDeleteThat's one J I hope not to happen upon anytime soon! Brilliant!
ReplyDeleteSo, Doctor Jackal did not HIDE this time!
ReplyDeleteEr, sorry Dina. Will do better later. One of my silly days.
Great recording, Dina! Lovely photos of your friend, Kristine. But I don't think that I would want to get too close to one of these kritters.
ReplyDeletePerfect choice for J-week.
Thanks for sharing.
Best wishes,
Anna
