Red and green

.
The only downside of living in The Jewish State is that when bloggers around the world are posting about Christmas--decorations, shopping, tree-trimming, snow, Christmas spirit--I can hardly find a "season appropriate" photo here in Jerusalem.

Does this count?

It's red and green . . .
It lives (if barely) in the Christian Quarter of the Old City . . .

It's wrapped for winter I guess, standing in a cold arcade.
Sigh . . .

  1. I must confess I have not yet done some decorations. This year only a few short branches with berries together with short cedar branches, some candles and tea-warmers. Most important is the music. I have been listening to the music of Taizé these past few days. Do you celebrate Chanuka in December?

  2. I guess it is the 'inside' of the season that makes Christmas Christmas.

Great picture. Please have a good Sunday.

  3. I dunno, I quite like the fact that those of us who don't celebrate Christmas aren't overwhelmed with it at every single opportunity here in Israel. I do like admiring the decorations but it isn't my holiday and frankly the whole "we're all having a giant party and you're not invited" thing gets old after the first few weeks.

  4. Anything goes, Dina. I bought a bag of potatoes so I could try making latkes for KC, but I've pretty much run out of time. Sheesh!

  5. Robin, shalom. Thanks for sharing this in a dugri way.
Yes, I feel very relieved and liberated that we in Israel are not part of the pressure of the commercial Christmas madness of say, the USA. I was just bemoaning the fact that I have almost no photos to show of Christmas in the Holy Land.

  6. Robert, you have plenty of the "insideness" of it on your blog, fortunately.

Patsy, thank you! I thought so too.

Wil, that sounds like just enough nice decorations.
    You have Taize CDs?
Yes, we celebrated Chanuka already. It was early this year, December 1-8.

  7. Hi Kay. Oh well, it's the thought that counts. LOL Making latkes takes a lot of time (if you grate by hand, like I have to). If you find a way to make them less oily, let me know. :)
But it WOULD be fun seeing a pic of KC eating latkes.

  8. Great idea. Christmas here is not so popular, everybody keeps energy for the New Year celebration. So thank you for the idea how to celebrate with my CDP friends)))
