Lara ascending

.
Sweet Lara among the winter rainy season greenery and flowers.

As spring and summer approach, all this will turn brown and dry.
.
The stairs going from one terrace to a lower terrace were built by the 12th century Crusaders.
.
Happy Camera-Critters Sunday to you and to the animals in your life.

  1. A beautiful cat in an interesting ruin! If these stones could speak, they would have a tale or two to tell!
The tower you saw in my pictures was indeed a fort, but I couldn't find out when it was built and by whom.

  2. 12TH century! Wow. And to think, that isn't ancient when you realize it is Israel. Did you see on the Internet a few days ago that two pages from the same bible, that had been in two different locations (museums) were brought together to yield new information on one of the oldest text of the bible? Having had the opportunity, when I was an undergraduate, to hear Dr. Nelson Glueck talk about how he used the bible to make discoveries of ancient sites has always drawn me to these articles.

  3. It's a beautiful image. Possibly Lara can sense some of the history there... or, maybe she's just smelling the flowers ;-)

  5. Beautiful blanket of wild flowers. Lara looks like a fairy princess amongst those wild flowers!

  6. The cat, despite being surrounded by all that marvelous green, is almost hidden by the rock. Wondeful antiquity!

  7. I almost didn't see her in all that lush greenery.
    Lovely shot!
    What great history.

  10. I love seeing scenery from around the world, and this is some of the most beautiful I've seen. Lovely! And what history behind those stones... amazing.

  11. I almost missed her because her color is somewhat similar to the rocks..

Please come and meet Chelsea, our new adopted baby.

  14. Shalom to all and thanks for your thoughts. So glad the flowers and the place make you happy.

Moneythoughts, yes, I did read about that "accidental discovery via a news photo" that linked the manuscripts!

You were lucky to hear the late great Nelson Glueck. He would be happy to know the influence he had on you.

Misty Dawn, hmm, Lara was born there and certainly belongs to that special place. Maybe she is a descendant of the Crusader cats?!

Tes, Lara looks like a fairy princess? Actually she moves like one too. :)

Everybody--yes, plants grow in the wintertime, when the rain starts. The other half of the year there is no rain, so the flowers and grasses dry up.

I'm starting to wonder now if the stairs are not older than Crusader Era. Some of the terrace walls here in the Hills of Jerusalem are from biblical days, and the stairs are part of a terrace wall.

Petrea, yes, it is prime dream location.

  16. A lovely image in a nice natural setting. I guess 12th centuries steps may count as nature...

  18. Such a cutie. It must be great for her to have all that space to claim as her own.
