It is All Souls Day today and yesterday was All Saints Day.
These are special days here in Austria.
This was just a small cemetery in rural Burgenland, but the graves were quite ornate.
I wish I could see it at night when the candles are lit.

Pictures of life in Jerusalem and the Jerusalem Hills. And since August 2013 also a look at the northern Negev, my new home.
Beautiful light in these shots, Dina.
ReplyDeleteMy sister, who passed away at 38, is buried in a small cemetery in the woods.
ReplyDeleteThe red candles make quite an impression of one visits at night.
A beautiful way to remember love ones .
ReplyDeleteIt is interesting to note that these traditions are still celebrated in Austria. It surprises me, actually, which only proves how little I know! The scenes you share here make me wonder about my great grandmother's resting place somewhere in Germany (I have seen photos) that looks so similar. Her and her family. I wonder if anyone in that little town also carries on these wonderful old traditions. No family I know of is left there to remember them or care. Sad.
ReplyDeleteso the traditions are the same as in Poland
ReplyDeleteSuch a lovely celebration and I agree that you have stunning lighting here!
ReplyDeleteAustrian cemeteries aren't so different from ours, after all...
