Every pork product imaginable

.

By the time I had seen my 4th or 5th Christmas market in Vienna, I started taking pictures of only the REALLY unusual (to me) things.
Like this Speck Standl -- a booth for all things pork!
If you enlarge the photo you'll find Teufelswurst.  Devil's sausage??

For me, a "nice Jewish girl" in Israel who does not eat unkosher food, ALL the meats hanging there seemed to be "from the devil."  ; )
I felt guilty (and a bit sick) even just smelling them and gawking at them.

The chestnuts looked nice, though.

The yellow wheel of this steam engine (?) was turning, I guess helping to roast the Maroni, the chestnuts.

Everyone entering the Weihnachts Markt am Hof stopped to inspect the two fancy cars on display.
.
Check the previous post to see a different Viennese Christmas market.

  2. If you don't know pork yo haven't missed much! Of all the meats, I like that one the least. But your pics from the Viennese Xmas market are nice. Hope things have died down in your sky and you're able to sleep at night!

  4. Pig meat is highly symbolic, isn't it? Jews and Muslims must not ever put any part of a pig in their mouth (pork, ham, bacon, offal), so I am with you. The look and smell are too much.

But hey, look at those cakes and bagels *yum*

  5. What a great market.I would have had too much luggage on my way home, if I had been there.... Or I should ask to borrow one of the cars??

The biggest market I have seen this December was in Oslo a week back.

  7. The sight of all that cured pork makes me a bit queasy too, though not for quite the same reason. It is way too much meat than I care to contemplate at any one time! ;-) I'm not a vegetarian but if I think about it too much I easily could become one I think. So I shall turn my thoughts to those delicious festive pastries and sweets you shared in your previous post! Ah, much nicer!

  8. We live in such different worlds. I cannot imagine how stressful it must be living with the sounds of war. May I wish you a more peaceful 2016. Merry Christmas.

  9. I love markets but could do without meat, fish and other stalls of similar items -- and I eat them all, guess I just don't want to look at what was once a living breathing creature - rather they look as they do on a plate. Love your market photos Dina!
