Sunday and Monday the Pope will come over to Israel.
As he, @Pontifex,  tweeted today,  "Dear friends, please pray for for me during my pilgrimage to the Holy Land."
.
UPDATE afternoon:  Like all Jewish Mothers, I worry. Like about the Pope's safety in the Middle East.
But I never imagined that we would be having EARTHQUAKES exactly during his visit!

Haaretz says "A magnitude 4.1 earthquake struck southern Israel, the Geophysical Institute of Israel said. The quake was felt across the country.
The earthquake's center was in the Dead Sea Rift, a system of faults prone to earthquakes, and the source of most of the powerful quakes which struck Israel.
Saturday's earthquake was the first of its magnitude in this segment of the Rift in recent years."

And Greece just experienced an even stronger quake. Oi ...

  1. Great night shot, Dina!

I will never forget the 7,9 earthquake in 1969 - by bed was moved to the middle of the bedroom. Very scary!

  2. That is strange timing on the quakes. I did know about the fault zone there.

    Beautiful night shot, Dina.

  3. I don't know what proportion of Jordanian citizens is Christian (3-5% perhaps) but it is small. So I hope the non-Christian minority make the pope feel really welcome and safe.

  6. We're kind of used to earthquakes out here in California. I didn't realize Israel had them too. I hope all goes well with the pope's visit to Israel - I saw he was going to visit Mt. Hertzl? Thanks for the links :)

  7. 7.9 is a huge quake, José!

I like this picture, with all the people waiting. Nicely done.

  9. Jose, I imagine that was VERY scary, considering Portugal's past experience with mass destruction from the earthquakes.

William, yes. Let's hope Pope Francis can move heaven and earth toward peace.

Hels, he got a warm welcome in Jordan from the King and Queen and their children and from the people.

Sara, I feel like the news has to be shared, and my excitement too.

Mark, ha, well said! Fortunately there was no damage in Israel.

Crystal, oh yes, the Great Rift Valley runs the length of Israel, a major fault zone. We are due for the big one.

Petrea, the photo is from Jerusalem's last Light Festival so everyone was out at night to see it in the Old City.

Cloudia, we can stop worrying. Everything went smoothly in the visit, thank God. I breathed a sigh of relief when Francesco took off from Ben Gurion Airport last night. We kept him safe for his 28 hours in Israel.
