A Heart for Peace

.
Right after posting about Jerusalem's Biblical Zoo yesterday I came across a heart-warming IDF post (see their video here).
I learned that just a few weeks ago a group of Palestinian children from the West Bank along with their parents had a field day at the Zoo.
.
Their trip was organized by the army's Civil Administration unit and Hadassah Hospital.
Most of the kids had undergone heart surgery at Hadassah.
.
Since 2005 there is a way for these families to get the help they need: Hadassah pays half the cost of the operation and a French NGO, the other half.
Un coeur pour la paix / A Heart for Peace has a nice little video about how it works.

  1. Thank you for visiting my blog and for commenting about our wedding anniversary.

I am so glad the children get the surgery that is required to give them years they would, otherwise, never have.

    Excellent post.

  3. I see that France and Israel care about Palestinian children much more than some oil-rich Arab countries...

  5. What differentiates a 'zoo' from a 'biblical zoo'?

  8. Thanks friends for expressing your sentiments.

Kris, the old Biblical Zoo had mostly animals mentioned in the Bible, if I remember properly. Then the zoo moved to a much bigger place and now has all kinds of animals. Its official name is the Tisch Family Zoological Garden but folks still call it the Biblical Zoo.
The different enclosures have signs with quotations from the Bible about that animal.

  9. I think that the Israeli tax payers are fabulous. To bring masses of children each year to have heart surgery at Hadassah for free is great! But then to bring their mothers as well, to pay for their hotels and to give them social and educational outings in Israel is even better.
