A sliver of a moon

.
We were sitting outside watching the changing shades of color in the 8:00 pm sky.
This new moon of a few nights ago signaled the beginning of the Hebrew month Tamuz.
(Hebrew months and moons are explained in a previous post.)
.
In less than three weeks Muslims will be watching for the next crescent moon, the sighting of which means that Ramadan observance can begin.
.
Happy SkyWatch Friday!

  6. This kind of sky light and colors is always breathtaking. And the silvery tiny moon adds just the right element to the whole picture.

  8. What a glorious sky! The phases of the moon simply pass most of us by here in the USA...at least among those I know. Half the time I never even see the moon. Sure would love to live somewhere that the night sky is wide open to my view and there's not so much light in the city that the stars cannot be seen.

  9. I love the idea that months begin when someone physically, actually visually confirms that there is in fact a new moon! it's a lovely reflection of how connected to and dependant on their environment people once were.
